Earlier this month, Vey Willetts’ lawyer Andrew Vey presented to the Employment Accessibility Resource Network (“EARN”). EARN is a community initiative that brings together in partnership employers, service providers and other stakeholders with the goal of increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Andrew updated participant employers on recent legal developments along with offering some guidance for best practices during the job hiring process. In particular, Andrew discussed: recent case law surrounding contractual termination provisions and potential employer liability; the implications, and requirements, of new federal anti-harassment regulations; and a number of pandemic-related issues, including the feasibility of workplace vaccinations, temporary lay-off requirements, and masking/screening at work.

Andrew also paid particular attention to accommodating disabilities during the interview/job hiring process so as to ensure accessibility and improve the employer’s chances of finding the best candidate for the role by removing potential barriers to the process.

The slides that accompanied Andrew’s presentation may be accessed here.

If you have questions about navigating the hiring process or need assistance with issues arising from the ongoing pandemic, please contact one of our employment lawyers to discuss further.
